In Praise of Avocado Oil: DIY Hair & Beauty Gold

image

Seriously, this stuff is just brilliant. If you’ve got dry skin and/or hair, you need this in your life.

It’s only recently that I’ve been interested in DIY/’natural’ type hair and beauty products, and it’s not for the usual reasons you’d expect. I’m not exactly the crunchy mummy type. I’m usually too lazy to sort out the recycling and I tend to glaze over when people start talking to me about ‘clean living’. What I do like, however, is stuff that really works, and I don’t like paying a fortune for it either.  Continue reading

M’s ‘Rubbish’ Painting: Major Mummy Lightbulb Moment

image

Recently, I had something of a lightbulb parenting moment. As if there isn’t enough to feel guilty about, or worry about how you must be screwing up your kids, or not a good enough parent…..but this one has really stuck with me.

My husband and I were driving my daughter (hereafter referred to as ‘M’) to her dance class (late, obviously) when I absent-mindedly asked her whether she wanted to do some painting or colouring later this afternoon. Her reply: “No mummy. I don’t want to colour or paint anymore. I’m rubbish at colouring and painting”.

I was absolutely horrified by this. Continue reading

Seriously Tasty Skinny Berry Muffins

image

First of all, I just want to point out that despite the fact that I have only published 6 posts so far and 2 of them are about muffins, I am not actually obsessed with muffins. I think I’ve baked more muffins in the past two weeks than I have in my entire life. It’s just the way it worked out.

But muffins are a pretty awesome treat; I can’t go out for coffee without ordering one (I suspect this is why my diets never work out). Whilst I normally do go for the ‘skinny muffin’ option, even they tend to pack 300 calories plus per muffin. It’s just not cricket.  Continue reading

Incredible DIY hair mask for very poorly hair

Battering hair is one subject where I truly excel. I haven’t seen my natural hair colour since I was 12; my teen years were spent rocking the colour spectrum with everything from white to pink to black (and back again). Now that I am an actual real live grown up it’s mostly just blonde, but I can never make my mind up whether highlights or a full head block colour is the way forward. I also sport a natural wave which makes me look like I’ve stuck my finger in a light socket if I don’t do anything with it, so I hammer it with GHD’s daily.  This campaign of abuse has naturally taken its toll on my once ultra thick hair and it can now only be described as well and truly destroyed. Hurrah for Skinny Pancakes!

image

If you’re anything like me, when it comes to that most special of holidays, Shrove Tuesday Pancake day, you just can’t help yourself. Seriously. Pancakes are bloody amazing; I could eat my body weight in these. Given that I am barely still holding firm to my New Year’s Resolutions concerning all things food, clearly I needed an alternative for this most sacred of days. Continue reading

Distressing furniture for (utter) dummies: a guest blog article

My lovely friend Elena gave me the chance to write something for her fab lifestyle blog Spanishmummy.co.uk . I took the opportunity to have a little ramble about my experience tarting up some old furniture in the oh-so-trendy “shabby chic” (cough, cough) style; a good sort of hobby for me, largely because you don’t need to be particularly good at it.

You can read the article here.

(Forgive the dodgy pics, won’t you? First attempt and all that)

Jamie Oliver’s (Ultra Virtuous) Sweet Potato Muffins Review

image

This year, I’ve been all about the healthy eating. It’s now 34 days in to 2016, which means that this resolution has lasted approximately 33 days longer than any of its predecessors. It seems the entire population of 25-40’s are currently jumping on the nutritional bandwagon, and I’m no different. Yet I find the likes of Amelia Freer or Ella (as lovely as they seem) a little intimidating, and have limited my venture into healthy eating to stay within the boundaries of good old faithful Jamie Oliver. Yes, he gets a little carried away with olive oil sometimes, and he’s been known to abuse his balsamic vinegar privileges, but you always know where you are with Jamie. He generally doesn’t mess you about.

Hello world indeed!

Hello World Indeed!

Welcome to my blog. Borne from the sort of clarity which is only achieved via Dry January deep reflection, I intend to use this space to bring back some creativity to my life. Continue reading
